How to choose your broker to sell or buy a boat.

The important thing for selling your boat today is a question of visibility and of course choosing a competent, honest and professional broker who has all the tools to facilitate the sale of the boat. But again, who is the target audience that we want to reach?

Of course, there are well-known websites like KIJIJI, Les Pacs, Auto Hebdo… where you can find everything, not just boats…

There are specialized sites, YachtWorld, ProprioBateau.ca, ProprioYacht.ca, which are aimed in particular at Canadians. YachtWorld largely dominates all websites in North America, it is the undisputed leader. But the latter is exclusive to brokers who are members of YachtWorld.

You must therefore know how to choose a broker specializing in boating who is able to advertise on all the sites viewed by boaters. Who says brokerage, of course says sales commission. What you need to know is that not all advertisers on YachtWorld announce that they are open to commission sharing. The boat owner (seller) does not have access to this information, only YachtWorld member brokers have this information visible to them.

As around 9 out of 10 clients are represented in the USA by a broker, it is therefore essential that the boat advertised on YachtWorld is open to CO-BROKERAGE, that is to say that it advertises to the broker who represents the buyer that he is open to sharing his sales commission that he negotiated with the owner who sells his boat.

If this is not the case, as the buyer’s broker will not receive any compensation, he will automatically move on to the next boat.

In Canada, unfortunately, it is very rare for brokers to be open to this practice while in the USA, it is the opposite. So when you entrust your boat for sale to a Canadian broker, make sure they are open to sharing, otherwise you risk having very few calls from the USA. Ita Yachts Canada is always open to commission sharing in order to promote the sale of the boat.

Your broker must be proactive, open to co-brokerage (commission sharing), have a very extensive network of contacts, know the taxation of the boat world and have good visibility, of course on the WEB but also enjoy a excellent reputation for integrity and honesty.
